WEEK3-WEEK5 group work

During these two weeks:
I built a scene and made the grass
I wrote the blueprints for the sway and the self-glowing shimmering material
Dealt with weather changes
Wrote some particle emitters (as fireflies)

FOR GLASS

Frist step:Modelling the grass

Second step: write a master material to write the different properties of the grass (e.g. wind, wave, sway, colour, etc.)

Because we need a stylised scene, the effect of the grass is particularly important here. I intend to link the model after making the grass material and then use the elements to procedurally generate all the grass. So I started with a brief list of the requirements for the grass I needed.

  1. To have wind and waves
  2. Be luminous at night
  3. It needs to have some flowers for decoration

So I used Brushify and the base terrain tool to simply create the terrain and the layers of terrain. Then started writing the mother material.

mask as uv,Tiling textures by division,The b constant controls the number of divisions to control the size of the tiled texture and the number of repetitions

Control the two colour endpoints in the gradient

Self-luminous
Wind
Uniform light and shadow normal direction
Outer profile wobble

Created a decal of the flower

Final result:

FOR STARS WAVE

Using time and relative world rotation to create a swinging blueprint

About sunrise and sunset and weather changes

Weather animation using sky creator and sun intensity + altitude

WEEK5 NUKE HOMEWORK

We were asked to choose what we wanted to do from the images given to us and then process it to turn it into a video

I choose this one:

Because I really like the scene where the items are all stacked up and the lighting in this scene makes me feel mysterious. So I’m going to turn it into a scene where magic and reality intermingle

I have roughly designed the arrangement of the items

The problem I now face is this.

  1. I can’t get an exact camera position out of a picture, and because it’s not a coherent video I can’t generate a point map and camera position. This results in only getting an approximate amount when rendering the cg angle.
  2. I need to take into account the effect of lighting and other factors on the cg, which makes pre-processing tricky. I also need to consider whether I need to render each part separately

WEEK5 NUKE

Our session focused on the specific synthesis process and handling

We reviewed the use of grade for colour grading and how to adjust materials via uv mode. But it’s more about a lot of detailing, so I’ll be putting in more of the process and nodes.

The first step in processing cg is to first use grade to mix the colours
How to match colours using grade
How to match colours using grade
Separate layers for colour and detail
Adjusting exposure and colour settings
Select the different parts of the cg
Remove unnecessary layers for file size
Effectiveness check
Material mapping with stmap

WEEK5 MAYA

In this lesson we are going to start making loop animations and our teacher taught us the basic usage of mash. We were also asked to design our own loop animation.

I found an animation reference

I found an animation reference

I have created the corresponding model, but I am having problems with the animation.
I have animated the ball moving around the track using mash, but I don’t want it to move at a constant speed. I want it to move slower on the sides and faster in the middle. But I didn’t find a solution online.

WEEK4 NUKE HOMEWORK

Final effect

My thought process

I think on a street like this the car is firstly backlit, which causes its frontal reflections to not be too bright, and secondly the orange of its colour would look a bit grey against this kind of cool light and background, so I changed the inherent colour and reflections. At the same time I resized the car slightly and added shadows.

WEEK3 NUKE HOMEWORK

Add new stuff, roto and clean up
before clean up
after clean up
Replaced windows

roto

Another job clean up and roto walls

I wanted to use roto for the skeleton effect, but haven’t solved the problem yet. So I will upload a video when it is fully solved.

I solved the problem of how to use roto to make a skeleton mask.
There are two methods

  1. make a layer attribute “minus” to the roto of the hollow part
  2. use marge to combine the two parts of the roto

My teacher told me that the second method was better because it would allow others to understand my steps better when working on larger projects and would also make it easier to make changes later.

the ropes

But I still have some problems with my clean up, they disappear in a few frames. I think it’s caused by the card not fitting perfectly into its original position, but I’ve resized the position and size a few times and a few frames will show. I don’t know why this is, or what I can do to create a perfectly fitting card. Because I have used as many points as possible to make the card, but the result is still not perfect.

WEEK4 NUKE

This lesson focuses on setting up how cg is used in nuke.
and how to manipulate the cg with different lighting materials

We first learned about the different layers of cg and its applications。

Different layers of the sphere
Different layers of the trolley

We also learnt how to adjust the lighting for the cg

WEEK4 MAYA

The session was completely done and all the designs were rendered for the materials. But the computer went black when rendering! Hopefully the technician can fix it because I don’t have it on my hard drive!
