This week we learned how to make lego figurines, and we found the reference image in our image search. I imported it into MAYA.
The first step was to make the head of the lego figurine, which we got by tweaking the columns. To make it softer around the edges we used a 3 viewing.
Then we got the body by adjusting the sides with squares.
After that we made the legs first, and only after the legs we made the middle connector. In this curved connector I learned how to use the resize tool to change a part of the curved surface directly to a straight surface. We also learned to use control+D to copy one of our finished legs.
For the hand we also used two parts to complete it, the arm and its hand. In the arm we used a bit of sculpting and soft movement, and then made the protruding sleeve. I filled the hole that was used to connect the hand, but I used a stretch. I found that there was always a small opening that wouldn’t close, and then I tried to fill the hole, and eventually it worked. For the hand we used pip to make it. I learned that holding down control and then deleting the line or point can remove the part linked with it at the same time.
What I learned from this model is: the closest simple geometry before making the model will make me think more clearly during the production process, and do not have the stereotype that LEGO miniature is an industrial product can only be adjusted with regular geometry, some times we can also use sculpture in between.
