Week5 MAYA

In this lesson we started to make a human head, we downloaded a human head and material mapping from the internet, then we started to make a topology for it, drawing quadrilateral shapes and then laying half of the face. After that we used symmetry to make the whole face. After this we started to draw the back of the head to fill it up.

Wonder is an experimental film created by Japanese artist Mirai Mizue, who, as a modernist, has undoubtedly been influenced by many recent art styles, but I think it is difficult to define whether this film belongs directly to a particular style. In this short film we can observe that it has a strong minimalist overtone, but in contrast to the minimalist view of the work as a pure form and a pure medium of communication, this short film does not neglect the expression of content and emotion. Although its expression is not narrative and continuous.
I have divided this short film into three parts, in the first part it consists only of black and white point and line variations, in the second part the author adds color variations and blends, and in the third part it adds rich brush strokes and strong color variations. I think it maps the evolution and expression of the world. From the first single-celled organisms, countless species have gradually evolved, and even humans have emerged. And after human beings came rich art and culture, countless evolution and encounter of ideas and technology. This is perhaps the meaning of miracle.
The author calls his animation cell animation, because in his concept he believes that the world is composed of layers of individuals, and he abstracts each individual as a cell. Perhaps this is the visual element that appears the most in the short film. In this work he uses hand-drawing to create a form of animation that is very common in the development of modern new media and computer technology. His production time is 365 days, which means that the artist continues to create drawings every day of the year. This means in a way completes part of the content of his short film.
Of course, everyone’s interpretation of an experimental short film will vary, but the overall tone of the film is undoubtedly upward, and the combination of relaxing and smooth music brings a unique visual enjoyment.

PART 1 – Call to Adventure
1 The Ordinary World
The heroine encounters the life of an ordinary police officer before the first corpse
2 The Call to Adventure
The heroine encounters the first corpse, a dead man by the railway tracks, and she waves the train to a halt to preserve the evidence
3 Refusal
The hero invites the heroine to help solve the case, but the heroine refuses because she thinks that just an ordinary police officer does not have the ability and experience to investigate important cases
PART 2 Supreme Ordeal/Initiation
4 Mentor Helper
The hero tells the heroine how to collect various information at the scene when the second body – an old woman – is found
5 Crossing the Threshold
The hero asks the heroine to cut off the victim’s arm during the investigation of the second victim’s scene, and the heroine breaks down on the spot as a result; but eventually she accepts the task and considers herself up to it
6 Test/Allies/Enemies
The heroine returns to the hero to continue the case, and the hero apologises to her for the previous problem
PART 3 Unification/Transformation
7 Approach
The heroine, along with the hero and the carer, pieced together the clues to discover that it was the publisher of a book and found the book that the culprit had used as a reference for the crime
8 Ordeal
The sheriff did not allow the hero and heroine to continue investigating the keys and took away all the evidence
9 Reward
The heroine saved the little girl of the pair of victims
PART 4 Road Back/Hero’s Return
10 Road Back
The heroine discovered that the real target of the culprit was the hero and immediately rushed back
11 Atonement
To learn that the motive of the real culprit was
12 Return
The hero and heroine return to their lives after the case is over, the hero gives up suicide and they spend Christmas together with their families

In this lesson we are learning roto and we practice with a person running on a bridge.
The interesting thing to note is that I found that even though the roto’s are linked sequentially, each roto is still linked to the background

Week 4 maya

In this lesson we worked mainly on completing some hot air balloon details, adding balloon hoops and adding some rope details. The balloon was then textured and animated and rendered.

This lesson focuses on narrative structure in film. We started by discussing the logic of story development in the general context And how the author would handle the rise and fall. Then we did a more detailed analysis for different types of movies. We focused on the adventure genre and analyzed the narrative structure of a film.

WEEK3 MAYA

We made a lot of things this week, in the morning we made wine glasses and glasses, and in the afternoon we made hot air balloons.
In the morning we initially made a jar with curved rotations and then used the same principle to make a wine bottle and a wine glass. But something went wrong when I was making it, I don’t know why it was black all over. So I went to ask the teacher, who said it was because the direction of the face was reversed, so just reverse it. Then I made my cup and wine glass, and set the material to glass, added the background and rendered it.
In the afternoon we started to make the hot air balloon. There are two main parts, the top balloon and the bottom frame. For the top balloon, in order to make the lines, we chose to select the spaced lines and shrink them to get the original look. Then we selected the spacing points below to drag it out, forming the small tip below. So the top half is basically complete. Then we started making the box and the string below (the string was really hard!) . The frame is divided into three parts, the top protruding border, the middle connection and the bottom. I asked my teacher why, and she explained to me that it was because the points on the sides of the arcs were too far apart, so it looked like two arcs put together in a circle and ignored the straight line in the middle. So I added the lines on the sides to make it look better. The line is divided into four parts, so just make a quarter and then duplicate it to make the result. First make three circles and then twist and curve them to get the cable, then adjust the angle and detail by soft selection. Then duplicate the four and link the balloons and boxes you made before.
There is really a lot of content in this lesson, so I need to review it again after the lesson to fully grasp it.

WEEK2 Design for Animation, Narrative Stuctures & Film Language

This lesson is about how to analyze movie plots and narrative structures, and I really like this part!
We talked about a lot of details that will be used in filming, such as camera movement direction and camera position and lighting, and they were all very practical (if we ever get to shoot on location). I didn’t understand exactly what camera movement meant at first, but I asked the instructor about it during a break in the class and he explained to me that there are times when people in the frame are moving in one direction but the camera is pointing in another, which can be confusing to the viewer. Then I understood that part of it.
The narrative structure part was really interesting, it reminded me of many hero movies I had seen. And we also talked about some of the narrative structures that might be different in different film genres. I’m a little confused about some of the words, though, and I’ll consult with my teacher in the next class along with my homework.

WEEK2 NUKE

In this lesson we focused on the lens and the picture scene.
I studied a lot of picture frames as an undergraduate, so I didn’t record a lot of the details of them.
But I learned a lot from what the teacher said about lenses. Although I understand the relationship between lens aperture shutter, I learned a lot about the angle of the lens, and I also learned that the lens ratio affects the lens and creates a special effect.
But I think if I need to know more about this maybe I need to be more uh actually shoot and try, I think this will be more helpful.
